What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Manager position at Distinct | North America?
Tax Manager | Hybrid
North Dallas, Texas
$135,000 to $160,000
More influence, not just more work
Reaching Tax Manager level should mean more than inheriting a bigger client list and spending more time reviewing returns.
The better move is usually one that gives you more ownership, more involvement in planning, and a stronger voice in how clients are supported.
I am representing an established CPA firm in North Dallas that is looking for a Tax Manager who wants that broader role.
You will work with high net worth individuals and privately owned businesses across sectors including oil and gas, healthcare, and hospitality.
The role combines technical tax responsibility with meaningful client involvement, giving you the opportunity to become a trusted adviser rather than simply the person responsible for getting the engagement completed.
What could improve for you
You will have greater ownership of client relationships throughout the year, not just during filing deadlines.
You will work directly with Partners and senior leaders, giving you closer access to the people making decisions around clients and the firm.
You will gain broader exposure to tax planning and advisory work alongside compliance.
You will also have the opportunity to influence workflow, client service, and the development of junior professionals.
Hybrid flexibility is available.
What the role involves
You will lead federal and state tax engagements and take responsibility for the quality and delivery of client work.
You will manage relationships with high net worth individuals and privately owned business owners.
You will identify tax planning opportunities and help clients understand the practical impact of more complex tax matters.
You will work closely with Partners on client strategy and wider advisory needs.
You will review work prepared by junior team members and help develop their technical and client facing skills.
You will also contribute to conversations around workflow, service quality, and how the firm supports its clients.
Who this role may suit
You may already be a Tax Manager, or you could be an experienced Reviewer ready to take on broader client and leadership responsibility.
Strong public accounting experience is important, along with the confidence to manage client relationships independently and exercise sound technical judgement.
A CPA or EA is preferred.
This could be a particularly good fit if your current Manager role has increased your workload without materially increasing your influence, client exposure, or development.
The opportunity here is to become more involved in the decisions around the tax work, not just the work itself.
Compensation
$135,000 to $160,000, depending on experience.

You do not need to match every requirement perfectly or have an updated résumé ready.
Relevant experience, judgement, and long term potential may matter more than ticking every box.
