What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Manager position at Distinct | North America?
Senior Tax Manager / Director
Northern Chicago Suburbs | Hybrid | $150,000 to $210,000
For a lot of experienced Managers and Senior Managers I speak to, the next move is not just about the next few years.
It is about finding the firm where they can genuinely see themselves becoming Partner.
The challenge is that plenty of firms talk about partner track, but not many can clearly show what that looks like.
This independent CPA firm can.
Several long standing partners are approaching retirement and, rather than waiting until the last minute, the leadership team is investing in succession planning now.
They are open to speaking with experienced Managers, Senior Managers, and Directors. What matters most is not your title today, but your ambition for the future.
You might already be operating at Senior Manager or Director level and looking for a clearer route to partnership. Equally, you could be an experienced Manager who enjoys public accounting, wants to take on more responsibility, and sees partnership as part of your longer term career plans.
There is no expectation that you walk through the door as a finished product. The partners want to invest in people, give them opportunities to grow, and involve them in shaping the future of the firm.
The firm is independently owned, around 40 people in size, and has grown steadily through reputation and referrals rather than acquisitions. No private equity. No constant restructuring.
No culture resets every few years.
As partners transition out, you will have the opportunity to take on established client relationships, become involved in leadership discussions, and have a genuine say in the future direction of the firm. They don’t want to hold people back
The work itself is broad and hands on. You will manage and review a varied client base including closely held businesses, high net worth individuals, trusts, estates, real estate, and construction clients. You'll continue building strong client relationships, mentoring staff, and acting as a trusted advisor to clients.
Importantly, future partners here are not expected to be full time rainmakers. Some of the existing partners are highly technical, others are relationship focused. The common thread is people who care about clients, take ownership, and want to help move the firm forward.
Outside of tax season there is significant flexibility. People are trusted to manage their schedules and deliver for clients without unnecessary bureaucracy.
You will ideally have:
• CPA license
• Public accounting experience with review and client management responsibilities
• Experience managing and developing staff
• A desire to take on greater responsibility over time and potentially progress to Partner
If you still enjoy public accounting but are looking for somewhere you can have a bigger voice, greater impact, and a genuine long term future, this could be worth a conversation.
