About the Company

Dispatch Energy is an independent power producer focused on distributed generation (sub-20 MW; predominantly 1–5 MW) across multiple technological verticals. We operate over 60 MW today with ~200 MW contracted in development across solar, battery storage, wind, and fuel cells.

The Role

We are hiring a Vice President, Investments to partner closely with the CIO and help drive day-to-day execution across M&A and greenfield investments, model/underwriting reviews, financing coordination, and support of the deal/origination team. This is a newly created role as we scale. The Vice President, Investments will partner closely with the CIO and cross-functional leaders to strengthen day-to-day execution, elevate underwriting standards, and improve end-to-end repeatability from diligence through financing and ongoing portfolio reporting. This leader will help strengthen and scale our investment platform by bringing consistency to underwriting, improving pace and predictability from diligence through close, and elevating portfolio risk insights and reporting as the business grows.

What You’ll Own

Investment & M&A Leadership

  • Partner with the CIO to advance end-to-end deal execution across buy-side M&A and project investments: screening → LOI → diligence → IC → NTP/COD → terming-out.
  • Lead weekly pipeline/funnel discussions, helping maintain underwriting rigor, clear version control, and timely issue resolution.
  • Coach and support deal and origination teams, including establishing practical SLAs and close-plan cadence that fit the volume and complexity of the pipeline.

Capital Markets & Financing

  • Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the Capital Markets team to align key underwriting perspectives and financing assumptions that inform financial models and investment decisions.

Underwriting & Modeling Standards

  • Provide final-pass review and constructive challenge on models across solar/BESS/wind/fuel cells/emerging technologies (for example: degradation, throughput/augmentation, availability, curtailment/congestion, stack replacement, Section 48/5, etc.).
  • Help reinforce strong doc-to-model tie-outs and thoughtful review practices, including peer review, quality checks, and readiness gates ahead of IC.
  • Partner with teams to assess interconnection and schedule risk and support consistent commercial terms with EPCs/OEMs (LDs, warranties, spares, response SLAs).
  • Help standardize underwriting processes for market entry and reinforce investment discipline through clear, practical risk management practices.

Portfolio Risk, Valuation & Reporting

  • Partner with the CIO to establish and monitor concentration and credit guidelines (for example, offtaker tiers, OEM/EPC exposure, utility/ISO exposure, node concentration).
  • Support the delivery of quarterly KPI dashboards and investment/portfolio reporting.
  • Collaborate with Operations on performance analytics (for example: PR/yield vs. P50/P90, BESS cycles vs. warranty, fuel-cell uptime).

Governance & Process

  • Support core investment governance, including IC materials and routines, valuation and hedging policies, related-party/conflicts controls, and documentation standards.
  • Help drive continuous improvement across data room organization, close checklists, and post-mortems to strengthen repeatability and learning.

30/60/90-Day Plan

Help drive continuous improvement across data room organization, close checklists, and post-mortems to strengthen repeatability and learning.

  • 30 days: Learn the pipeline and team rhythms; align on modeling standards and review cadence; establish a weekly funnel routine and a simple red-flag register; align warehouse/term debt handoffs and playbooks.
  • 60 days: Propose and align on portfolio risk guidelines and an initial concentration dashboard.
  • 90 days: Support the first quarterly marks and board/investor materials; implement a lightweight post-close feedback loop and performance variance framework.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • 8–15 years in project finance/principal investing/capital markets within IPP, renewables, or energy infrastructure.
  • Closed-deal track record across DG-scale solar and/or BESS; exposure to fuel cells and small wind (or alternative asset classes) strongly preferred.
  • Command of financing structures: borrowing bases, construction and term debt, tax credit transferability/sale-leaseback/partnership flips, and hedge instruments.
  • Elite financial modeling and diligence leadership; comfort translating technical/permitting/interconnection issues into valuation and term-sheet protections.
  • Team leadership: managing associates/VPs, setting SLAs, and coaching origination partners.
  • Clear, concise communicator with board and lender-ready materials.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with IRA PWA/DAV and domestic-content nuances; Section 48/45 mechanics.
  • Hands-on familiarity with BESS warranty/throughput management and augmentation planning.
  • Comfort with portfolio analytics tools (e.g., Quickbase/Power BI/Tableau) and model registry/version control.
  • Exposure to commodity hedging for fuel cells (multi-year gas).

Competencies

  • Owner mindset: Bias to outcomes and accountability.
  • Structured problem solving: Turns ambiguity into checklists, timelines, and term sheets.
  • Risk intuition: Balances velocity with covenants, eligibility, and downside cases.
  • People leadership: Sets pace and clarity; develops talent; earns trust cross-functionally.
  • Communication: Writes or approves crisp IC memos; negotiates directly with lenders, OEMs, EPCs, and counterparties (as needed).

Tools & Stack (preferred)

  • Excel (advanced)
  • PowerPoint / Word
  • Data rooms (Box/SharePoint /Smartsheets)
  • Project trackers (Quickbase)
  • Power BI/Tableau
  • (Optional plus) Python/VBA for automation; Aurora/energy-yield tools familiarity
