Intellectual Property Litigation / Life Sciences Associate Attorney – Mid-Level

Direct Counsel is seeking an IP Litigation / Life Sciences Associate Attorney to join a highly successful intellectual property practice at a leading law firm. This opportunity is based in Washington, D.C., with candidates in other U.S. offices also considered.

Position Overview

The firm is seeking a highly qualified mid-level associate attorney with at least 3 years of prior work experience in a biotechnology practice and an academic background in a life sciences discipline. The ideal candidate will have experience handling sophisticated pharmaceutical and biotechnology litigation, particularly Hatch-Waxman, biosimilar, or competitor pharmaceutical matters.

Responsibilities

• Handle sophisticated intellectual property litigation involving life sciences, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies.
• Represent clients in Hatch-Waxman, biosimilar, and competitor pharmaceutical litigation.
• Handle matters in federal district court and/or before the PTAB.
• Conduct complex legal and technical research and analysis.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery materials, and other litigation documents.
• Assist with all phases of litigation and, as experience permits, take increasing responsibility for managing matters.
• Manage and mentor junior associates.
• Work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and technical professionals.
• Develop creative and practical strategies for complex IP disputes.
• Manage case deadlines, workflow, and organizational requirements across multiple matters.

Qualifications

• 3 years of prior work experience in a biotechnology practice.
• Degree in a life sciences or related technical discipline, such as:
  • Biochemistry
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Biomedical Science
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Molecular Biology
  • Pharmacy
  • Related life sciences field
• Experience handling intellectual property litigation.
• Experience with Hatch-Waxman, biosimilar, and/or competitor pharmaceutical cases preferred.
• Experience practicing in federal district court and/or before the PTAB preferred.
• Experience managing litigation matters preferred.
• Strong research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage and mentor junior associates.
• Strong organizational and matter-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and creatively while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Strong academic credentials from an accredited law school.
• Must be admitted to the state bar in the jurisdiction of the preferred office location.

Location

Washington, D.C. preferred; other U.S. offices will be considered.
