Litigation Associate Attorney – Business Restructuring & Insolvency

Direct Counsel is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney with 2–4 years of experience to join a leading Business Restructuring & Insolvency practice. This opportunity is ideal for a high-performing commercial, securities, bankruptcy, or complex litigation attorney who is looking to take on meaningful responsibility and develop into a sophisticated courtroom advocate.

Responsibilities

• Work on sophisticated, fast-moving litigation and investigations involving corporate distress, restructuring, insolvency, bankruptcy, and related disputes.

• Take ownership of significant case workstreams and become increasingly involved in case strategy and decision-making.

• Participate in depositions, including taking and defending depositions.

• Prepare and examine witnesses and work closely with experts.

• Participate directly in case strategy and have opportunities to appear and argue in court.

• Manage complex discovery, including document productions and large factual records.

• Develop case strategy from extensive factual records and coordinate with broader litigation teams.

• Research complex legal issues and draft substantive memoranda, briefs, motions, and other advocacy materials.

• Analyze complicated factual and legal issues and develop practical, persuasive arguments.

• Manage multiple workstreams and competing deadlines in high-stakes matters.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in commercial, securities, bankruptcy, or other complex litigation at a leading law firm.

• Strong experience working on large, sophisticated, and fast-moving litigation or investigation teams.

• Substantial hands-on experience with complex discovery and document-intensive matters.

• Meaningful experience with legal research and drafting substantive litigation documents.

• Excellent writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong judgment and the ability to quickly master complex factual and legal issues.

• Demonstrated interest in developing as a courtroom advocate and taking on substantive responsibility.

• Strong academic credentials preferred.

• Prior bankruptcy experience is preferred but not required; outstanding commercial or securities litigators interested in developing a bankruptcy litigation practice are encouraged to apply.

• Active bar admission in the applicable jurisdiction or eligibility for admission.

Location: New York, NY
Salary Range: $235,000–$310,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors
