Job Description
The NPI Assembly Technician Level II will support the build, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of new and evolving electro-mechanical products during the introduction phase. This role works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to support prototype builds, refine assembly documentation, and help transition products from development to production. Ideal candidates have hands-on assembly experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to support continuous improvement during early product lifecycle stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and wire prototype and first-article electro-mechanical units based on preliminary drawings, schematics, and engineering build instructions.
- Perform functional testing, calibration, and verification on units to confirm compliance with NPI performance and quality standards.
- Support Engineering with design feedback related to manufacturability, assembly methods, and documentation clarity.
- Troubleshoot and identify assembly issues, component mismatches, or process deviations, and recommend potential corrective actions.
- Document build findings, defects, and process observations during NPI trials to support Engineering change requests (ECRs/ECOs).
- Support the creation, refinement, and validation of work instructions, BOMs, process documentation, and quality checkpoints.
- Use hand tools, power tools, torque drivers, and electronic test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) safely and effectively.
- Assist in training Assembly Technicians and production teams during NPI-to-production handoff.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation in accordance with 5S and safety guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
- 2 years of experience in electro-mechanical assembly, preferably in NPI, prototype, or engineering build environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
- Experience with hand tools, torque devices, soldering equipment, and basic electronic test instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to support process documentation and feedback loops.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving NPI production environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
