Reports To: VP of Construction

Salary: 150-200K base

Location: Sacramento, CA

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager oversees the entire building process from concept through completion, including design, estimating, construction, and post-construction phases. This position is responsible for ensuring project goals are achieved while maintaining strong client and vendor relationships, managing budgets and schedules, and leading project teams. The ideal candidate will possess extensive commercial construction experience, exceptional leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of construction industry standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, consultants, and vendors.
  • Meet with prospective clients, prepare proposals, and participate in project interviews.
  • Represent the company at industry and networking events to strengthen professional connections.

Design Coordination

  • Manage and coordinate the design process, including selection of design teams, scope development, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Oversee value engineering, constructability reviews, cost studies, entitlement coordination, and permit processes.
  • Collaborate with ownership to align design expectations with project goals.

Procurement and Contract Management

  • Prepare and execute Owner Contracts, Subcontracts, Purchase Orders, and Change Orders.
  • Lead the procurement process for design consultants, including bid solicitation, leveling, and selection.
  • Ensure proper coordination and documentation throughout entitlement and design phases.

Budgeting and Scheduling

  • Develop and manage high-level project budgets and schedules for proposed and active developments.
  • Conduct monthly margin reviews and final project reconciliations.
  • Maintain master project schedules and ensure accurate cost control and reporting.

Project Management

  • Lead project teams, ensuring all staff utilize project management tools effectively to streamline processes.
  • Conduct and facilitate regular team meetings, track action items, and monitor progress.
  • Review and approve work products from team members, ensuring quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Guide and mentor project managers and engineers throughout all phases of construction.
  • Oversee project closeout documentation and support post-construction activities.

Compliance and Coordination

  • Coordinate with local jurisdictions to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
  • Engage with municipal entities, city councils, and the public during design and entitlement review processes.
  • Work with local utility providers to manage infrastructure coordination and improvements.

Risk Management and Quality Control

  • Develop and review project risk assessments and constructability reports.
  • Establish and maintain controls to identify, monitor, and mitigate risks affecting project success.
  • Contribute to financial reporting and project health reviews.
  • Support implementation of safety and quality assurance programs across all project sites.

Strategic Input

  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations impacting departmental and organizational goals.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of commercial construction experience, including at least 5 years in a project management capacity.

Technical Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of construction trade practices and building codes.
  • Proven success managing large-scale commercial projects, including design-build delivery methods.
  • Strong knowledge of preconstruction processes, cost estimating, and project scheduling.
  • Proficiency with project management and construction software (scheduling, estimating, cloud-based platforms, PDF markups, Microsoft Office, 3D modeling, and Timberline).
  • Safety Training: OSHA 10 or 30 certification required.
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Contract Law & Accounting: Familiarity with contract law principles and accounting best practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Capable of climbing stairs, ladders, and accessing work areas under construction.
  • Requires close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel to job sites.

Working Environment

  • Primarily on-site at active construction projects, often exposed to outdoor elements, moving machinery, noise, and airborne particles.
  • Work conditions may include elevated noise levels and varying weather environments.
  • Potential exposure to standard construction materials and chemicals.

Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
