AWE is seeking to fill a Senior Botanist position, on-call or full-time to support projects in northern California based out of our Orangevale office.

In this role, we'll count on you to lend your biological resources and management knowledge and practical expertise by:

§ Conducting presence/absence and habitat suitability surveys for special-status plants and wildlife, wetland delineations, preconstruction surveys, biological and construction monitoring, and regulatory compliance/permitting.

§ Developing and completing technical reports such as wetland delineations, Natural Environment Studies, Biological Assessments, botanical survey reports, and biological permit applications.

§ Managing projects, tasks, budgets, and deadlines.

§ Collaborating with project staff, clients, and regulatory agency staff.

§ Mentoring junior staff.

§ Preparing proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.

§ Contributing to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, biological evaluations/assessments, monitoring reports, mitigation plans and associated documents to address project impacts.

Required Qualifications:

§ Bachelor's (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.

§ Minimum of 3 years of experience with California flora.

§ Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience conducting comprehensive biological surveys, preparing environmental compliance and permitting documentation, managing staff, managing projects, coordinating with clients and potential clients.

§ Extensive experience with northern California plants, threatened and endangered species surveys, and consulting with state and federal regulatory agencies.

§ Proficiency in state and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to: CEQA and NEPA, Clean Water Act, Federal Endangered Species Act, California Endangered Species Act, and California Fish and Game Code.

§ Self-starter with a positive, flexible, team-oriented approach.

§ Good organizational skills, flexibility/adaptability to work on multiple tasks.

§ Strong time management skills – possess the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

§ Excellent oral and written communication skills, detail oriented, and resourceful.

§ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

§ Ability to work hours other than 9-5, if needed (e.g., early mornings, late nights, weekends) and willingness to travel and stay overnight or extended stays.

§ Self-motivated with a work ethic that incorporates honesty, punctuality, and initiative.

§ Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in sometimes inclement weather conditions, including walking up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain, be able to carry various types of field equipment and supplies, and use field tools.

§ Valid California Driver's license, good driving record, proof of insurance, and be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.

Experience with GIS is a plus.

Pay Range

There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$62, $135,200.00

Pay: $62, $135,200.00 per year
