CERTIFIED WELD INSPECTOR (CWI)

Purpose:
The Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) will support our trailer manufacturing operations. In this role, candidate will ensure that all welded components meet strict safety, quality, and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in welding inspection and a solid understanding of trailer fabrication, structural welds, and production processes. The responsibilities of a Certified Weld Inspector include:.
Inspection & Quality Control
- Perform visual inspections and oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds on trailer frames, chassis, and components.
- Verify compliance with welding procedure specifications (WPS) and applicable industry codes (AWS D1.1, D1.2, etc.).
- Inspect welds for proper penetration, bead appearance, joint preparation, and dimensional accuracy.
- Document findings and prepare inspection reports for production and quality teams.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure trailer welds meet safety, structural, and regulatory standards.
- Monitor welder qualifications and confirm adherence to approved welding procedures.
- Identify and report nonconformities, and support corrective and preventive actions.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with welders, production supervisors, and engineers to resolve welding issues.
- Provide real-time feedback and coaching to welding personnel to promote quality workmanship.
- Support customer inspections, audits, and internal quality reviews.
Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Recommend process improvements to reduce rework, improve consistency, and increase throughput.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements.
- Stay current with welding codes, inspection methods, and trailer manufacturing best practices.
Training and Development:
- Train production staff on new processes, techniques, and equipment to ensure smooth transitions and adherence to quality standards. Work with customer service and warranty teams to address safety-related complaints and provide timely resolutions.
- Conduct safety training for employees and dealers on trailer handling, inspections, and reporting requirements.
Quality Support:
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to identify and drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Support efforts to develop, maintain, and drive improvements with dashboard metrics
- Serve as a standing member of the New Product Introduction team to ensure product released to manufacture is capable of being manufactured within specified objectives.
Qualifications:
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential through AWS (required).
- High school diploma or technical degree required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3 years of welding inspection experience in manufacturing or heavy fabrication (trailer, structural steel, or related industries strongly preferred).
- Knowledge of trailer structures, materials, and welding techniques (MIG, flux-cored, and aluminum welding).
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, lean manufacturing, or other quality management systems is a plus.
