Summary
The Manager of Capital Project Planning and Controls is responsible for the operational and financial planning of the North American capital investment portfolio. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Site Leadership, Engineering, Finance, and Global CAPEX teams to manage forecasting, reporting, and governance of capital projects. It ensures accuracy in cash flow projections, alignment with corporate investment priorities, and compliance with internal controls and global guidelines.
This position plays a critical role in enabling the VP of Engineering to focus on strategic capital planning and executive-level engagement by owning the tactical and financial execution of the CAPEX program.

This position plays a critical role in enabling the VP of Engineering to focus on strategic capital planning and executive-level engagement by owning the tactical and financial execution of the CAPEX program.
Responsibilities
Capital Planning & Budgeting
- Maintain and update the 3-4 years capital investment plan across all North American sites and functional entities (e.g., real estate. Manufacturing, Sustainability).
- Collaborate with sites to develop accurate cash flow forecasts and phasing schedules in Prompt.
- Support development of annual capital budgets and quarterly reforecasts in line with global guidance.
- Distribute approved capital envelopes and provide site-level guidance on allocation strategy.
- Manage a comprehensive tracker for all open projects, including actuals, carryovers, LE (Latest Estimate), and performance vs. plan.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly cash flow reviews with sites and global finance teams.
- Support fiscal year-end planning to ensure financial targets are met through spend acceleration or deferral strategies.
- Ensure all capital projects are properly phased and maintained in Prompt, with accurate cash flow timing.
- Review and approve CAPEX-related PO’s.
- Monitor adherence to internal control processes (CARM) and facilitate stakeholder training as required.
- Coordinate Gate 2 reviews and maintain compliance with capital governance processes.
- Train team on Gate Process, Prompt and Coupa Process
- Act as the primary liaison for site finance leads, asset care managers, and project managers on capital planning matters.
- Prepare and present content for Tier 3 and Tier 4 CAPEX reviews; support Tier 5 reviews with summaries and analysis.
- Provide regular briefings to the VP of Engineering on capital risks, reclassifications, funding opportunities, and global inputs.
- Partner with Procurement, Global Engineering, and Global Finance to align capital investment strategy with savings and productivity objectives.
- 8–12 years of experience in capital project planning or financial controls within an engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Finance, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of capital budgeting, project governance, and financial forecasting.
- Experience working in global, matrixed organizations and with enterprise systems such as SAP, Coupa, and Prompt.
- Proficiency in project financial modeling, scenario planning, and capital performance reporting.
- Financial discipline and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines
- Clear communication and reporting to executive and site-level audiences
- Effective cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder influence
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and adapting capital plans dynamically
