Internship Summary:
Reports to: Membership Project Manager
As the Membership and Partnership intern, you will directly support the Partnerships & Alliance department with the tools needed to engage local businesses and support Destination DC's philanthropic foundation, NEXTDC. You will gain dedicated experience in CRM database management, member relations, and the execution of high-impact diversity and sustainability programs.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn about the tourism membership industry, gain practical experience in non-profit community engagement, and contribute to the success of Destination DC's partner network.
Department Summary:
Partnerships and Alliances (P&A) is an exciting and entrepreneurial revenue-generating department within DDC. P&A generates revenue through membership dues, sponsorship and special events. Engagement and retention of the over 1,000 business members and acquisition of new members is key to DDC's success. Sponsorships contribute to the organization's operational budget and strategic partnerships help leverage key assets within our city.
DDC members, sponsors and partners contribute to our city's vibrant economy and the positive image and identity of Washington DC as a world-class destination for locals, visitors and convention attendees to enjoy.
Training
You can expect to receive training in these areas:
- Membership and partnership benefits, the work of all the DDC departments and how this fits together to help local businesses.
- Using Simpleview CRM, culminating in certification in at least one CRM module.
- Introduction to the principles and applications of accessibility, sustainable tourism and hospitality workforce development.
- Presenting and public speaking in various formats.
Your Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Update partner records, track communications, and run reports within the CRM.
- Support the DEI Business Fellowship, Sustainability District, and Welcome Asia through prospecting, audits, and surveys.
- Assist with the planning and execution of monthly educational and networking events for members.
- Record and edit training videos and develop slides and materials for various presentations.
- Collect qualitative and quantitative data and conduct desk research to support the organization's Sustainability strategy.
- Prepare partner recap reports, conduct feedback surveys, and audit ticket bank utilizations.
- Support and lead weekly professional development sessions and provide feedback for high school Career Ready Interns.
- Provide onsite logistical and administrative support for the Scholarship Awards and July 4th Fundraiser.
- Manage meeting preparation, filing, and organization for the department.
- Attend weekly company-wide and bi-weekly team meetings while providing feedback on member activities and concerns.
- Additional projects as assigned.
What You Bring: Education, Experience & Competencies:
- You must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university; you must be a junior or senior in good standing.
- Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, Sports Management, and Event Planning majors are strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and professional writing skills, with a focus on business etiquette and exceptional customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Canva, with the ability to quickly learn new tools like Wrike, Simpleview, and CapCut.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage project statuses and suggest creative solutions to problems.
- Experience in qualitative research, data visualization, and the ability to interact professionally with partners and clients.
- A positive, punctual, and eager-to-learn attitude with a demonstrated passion for the travel and tourism industry in Washington, DC.
- Previous internship experience is a plus.
Accountabilities & Measures
Weekly status reports are required of all team members. Performance evaluation will be conducted at the end of the internship.
Internship Specifics:
Duration
- Summer: start week of May 18 - ending week of August 3 ( 12 weeks).
- You must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours and no more than 30 hours per week.
- A typical summer work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with Fridays off.
- Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
Work Environment:
This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum of three days a week, as determined by supervisor. Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.
