What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Medical Assistant (Longhorn) position at Dermcare Management Llc?
The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) reports to the Clinic Manager, Office Manager or Area Manager. The role works in a leadership/training capacity for some, or all, of the Medical Assistants and/or clinical staff in the practice. The Lead MA facilitates staff activities, acts as a resource to staff and leads by example setting a high standard for professional behavior, patient care and customer service. The Lead MA may participate in interviewing, hiring, training or staff performance reviews, as well as additional managerial or administrative duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the supervision of work and performance of clinic staff including reception, medical assistants and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
- Assist in scheduling, training and overseeing new and existing staff. Act as first point of contact for call-outs, late arrivals & emergency staffing situations.
- Assist with clinic scheduling problem solving, patient wait times, and other areas of concern to increase efficient and quality services.
- Various inventory duties as assigned by supervisor, including medical, cosmetic, retail or lab end of month inventory.
- Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes. Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities.
- Acts as first point of contact for escalations and patient issues
- Advocate for patients, providers and the office and actively problem solve with a solution-oriented approach.
- Facilitate and champion a team building and collaborative atmosphere and maintain cordial and positive working relationships with provider, supervisors & direct reports
- Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed
- Updating and filing patient medical records and or any patient correspondence
- Coding and filling out insurance forms
- Transmitting prescription or refill requests as directed by provider
- Obtaining prescription authorizations for patient medications
- Reporting and recording applicable diagnosis of malignant results to the FCDS portal
- Creating certified letter communication for noncompliant patients needing treatment for malignant results
- Inform management of clinical supplies needed
- Maintaining HIPAA and performing OSHA standards at all times
- Taking medical histories, recording patients' chief complaint and documenting provider evaluation notes of visit in patients chart
- Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams
- Preparing patients for examination-Prepping exam rooms for clinical, surgical or cosmetic procedures and assisting providers during exams with patient care
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by a provider
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Ensuring all consents are signed by the patient prior to provider performing any type of procedure
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- Medical Assistant Certification (preferred) or equivalent training.
- Minimum 2-year prior medical assistant experience, preferably in Dermatology or a closely aligned specialty with a genuine interest to learn
- Minimum 2-year prior Lead/Supervisory experience
- For internal transfers and promotions, be an employee in good standing.
