They have a key role in the training and acclimation of new staff to the team. The Lab Tech helps to create the culture of Dermatology Partners by always being polite, friendly, and helpful to patients and team members. They always present in a professional appearance and manner. There are no supervisory responsibilities unless assigned by the appropriate Manager. The Lab Technician reports to the Lab Manager.

Responsibilities
- Accessioning specimens in a timely and accurate manner
- Preparing slides for transport with courier
- Filing and pulling slides as requested
- Performing gross dissection/examination for select uncomplicated or wholly submitted or bisected skin specimens
- Performing microtomy on various tissue types to include very small biopsies
- Accurate and timely preparation and staining of histology specimens under both routine and STAT (frozen section, Mohs surgery) conditions
- Ensuring safe and non-traumatic specimen handling process with critical concern for the quality of the specimen
- Controlling contaminated or potentially dangerous specimens in accordance with accreditation agency requirements
- Preparing slides with concern for the quality of the specimen given the procedures to be used for test or examination
- Ensuring equipment is operated according to manufacturer's instructions, maintained properly and supplies are adequate for the work to be performed
- Maintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient data
- Assisting with data entry of patient demographics into EMR/Billing Systems
- Processing pathology billing
- Preparing slides for transport with courier
- Filing and pulling slides as requested
- Sorting incoming deliveries and mail and routing to the appropriate contact
- Maintaining laboratory logs
- Cleaning laboratory to limit cross-contamination
- Maintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient data
- Accessioning specimens in a timely and accurate manner
- Other duties as deemed necessary
