Wellness Coordinator - Alcohol and Other Drugs

The Highlights:

The Wellness Coordinator, AOD provides a holistic, integrated, institutional approach to Health and Wellness education and service provision at DePaul University. The position ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws, including the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, Title IX, and various university policies. The Wellness Coordinator works with professional staff in CCW to lead educational efforts in the areas of substance misuse prevention, harm reduction, sexual and relationship violence prevention, mental well-being, and holistic wellness related topics. The coordinator will develop programming, policies, messaging and intervention to the campus community. In addition, the Coordinator will work individually with students who have identified a need for assessment, support, referrals and confidential survivor support advocacy on and off campus. As a member of a team of prevention professionals, this position will utilize research, best practices, communication and marketing to make the campus community a safe place. 

What You'll Do:

1. Lead the University's substance misuse prevention programming and communication campaigns. 
- Develop and implement educational programming and learning opportunities to promote student personal health and well-being, including consent, healthy relationships, harm reduction, community and personal safety.
- Increase university awareness and knowledge on topics such as, sexual assault and relationship violence, healthy behaviors related to substance use, healthy relationships, consent, risk assessment, bystander intervention, supporting survivors, assessing student substance use, on- and off-campus resources and university policies; coordinates workshops, presentations, trainings, guest speakers and other events on these topics.
- Train peer health educators on harm reduction, addiction, recovery, substance use disorders, and other related content. 
- Provide oversight and consultation for peer health educators substance use/misuse prevention and sexual health programming.
- Create and provide trainings to student leaders, faculty, staff, the University Board members and its advisors.
- Advise clubs and organizations related to substance misuse education, harm reduction, support and prevention on campus.
- Serve on university-wide health and wellness committees, task forces and other initiatives. 

2. Coordinate assessment efforts related to substance use/misuse and sexual violence at DePaul, including target populations, such as adult students, residential students, commuter students, student athletes, fraternity and sorority members, students of color and LGBTQ students.
- Conceptualize, implement and document assessment projects aimed at understanding alcohol and substance use/misuse on campus, as well as changes in use/misuse over time.  
- Assist in developing, updating, and assessing efficacy of Vinny Vow bystander intervention training. 

3. Develop and maintain collaboration with community resources for support and education related to sexual and relationship violence and substance misuse prevention. 
- Serve as Survivor Support Advocate in conjunction with the Office of Gender Equity; Serve as lead provider of substance use assessment related to sanctions including BASICS and CHOICES workshops.
- Provide evidence based, holistic, and empathic brief counseling to students facing difficulties related to health and wellness related issues taking place inside and outside of the classroom. 

4. Ensure DePaul's compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act.
- Coordinate the delivery of the annual notification letter to students and employees about DePaul's alcohol and other substance policies.
- Write the Biennial Review every two years as mandated by law; collaborates with campus partners to ensure the integrity of this document.

5. Provide supervision as directed to graduate interns and undergraduate student employees that serve the office.

What You'll Need:

• Bachelors degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Public Health or related field, required.
• Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience required in counseling, education, community health, public health or related field required (2 years of relevant graduate experience will equate to 1 year of professional experience). 
• Illinois license in Counseling or Social Work and/or 40 hour sexual assault or domestic violence crisis intervention training preferred.
• State certification or experience working directly in substance misuse treatment strongly preferred. 
• Masters degree, preferred. 
• Certification as a 40 hour survivor support advocate within 6 months of hire, required.
• Certified Substance Use Counselor accreditation, strongly preferred.
• Basic use of Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and associated software systems.  
• Understanding and use of DePauls Vincentian personalism, professionalism and community service roles. 
• Understanding of campus trends, student health initiatives, and prevention services.
• Some evening and weekend hours as needed.
• This position is required to work primarily in office.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $47,783 to $57,148. 

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
