Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, establishing a friendly and professional first impression.
- Verify insurance information accurately, including managed care plans, insurance eligibility, and coverage details.
- Collect and process patient information efficiently, ensuring all medical records are updated and maintained securely in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with insurance claim submissions, follow-up on unpaid claims, and coordinate with insurance providers regarding billing inquiries.
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems to support accurate documentation and billing processes.
- Manage appointment scheduling, patient check-in/check-out procedures, and maintain organized medical records.
- Support medical office staff by handling administrative tasks such as answering phones, managing correspondence, and coordinating referrals or additional services.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical or dental office environment is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with managed care processes, insurance verification procedures, and medical coding practices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and medical records management.
- Experience with office software applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems is advantageous.
- Previous roles involving insurance processing or billing in healthcare settings will be considered a plus.
