Sr. Network & Firewall Automation Engineer

Senior Network & Firewall Automation Engineer | Location: Off-Site | Contract

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network & Firewall Automation Engineer to support enterprise network security initiatives and infrastructure projects. This role involves designing, implementing, and automating network and firewall solutions within a secure enterprise environment, with a focus on automation using Python and Ansible. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in network architecture and security, working collaboratively across teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical network and security engineering designs to meet business and technical project requirements.
• Translate business needs into detailed technical infrastructure designs, ensuring traceability from requirements to implementation.
• Design, document, and execute network and firewall implementations for enterprise infrastructure initiatives.
• Configure, build, stage, and deploy network and firewall policies as code, leveraging automation tools.
• Support network boundary requests (NVRs) and other network security changes, managing both straightforward and complex requests.
• Lead firewall builds, modifications, and automation efforts across multiple project initiatives.
• Integrate new project requests into existing network topology and security architecture, ensuring seamless deployment.
• Develop testing strategies and validate infrastructure changes and deployments.
• Prepare detailed implementation and migration plans for new network services or modifications.
• Utilize automation scripting to streamline manual processes, enhancing operational efficiency.
• Configure, test, and deploy infrastructure releases across hardware and software environments.
• Perform complex troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for hardware and network-related issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure and security initiatives.
• Provide technical documentation, status updates, and progress reports to management and stakeholders.
• Support change management and problem resolution processes using enterprise tools.
• Contribute to technology roadmap development and lifecycle planning.
• Assist with compliance monitoring and adherence to internal security and audit standards.
• Train technical staff on tools, procedures, and engineering standards as needed.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of firewall engineering experience, particularly with Palo Alto and Juniper platforms.
• Proven experience configuring and deploying network infrastructure and firewall policies as code.
• Proficiency with automation and scripting, including Python and Ansible.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, TCP/IP protocols, and packet analysis.
• Experience working with Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Knowledge of system security controls and boundary security best practices.
• Experience supporting cloud boundary security requests.
• Familiarity with enterprise workflow tools such as ServiceNow and Jira.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CCNP, Sec , CEH, AWS, or Azure are highly desirable.

• Knowledge of risk management analysis and security controls.
• Experience supporting complex enterprise security projects with tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools and techniques.
