Senior Cloud Engineer

Senior Cloud Engineer | Location: Remote | Contract | Hourly Pay Range $95-$108

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer to support large-scale cloud modernization initiatives within AWS environments. This role emphasizes designing, automating, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps best practices. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer experienced in cloud infrastructure delivery, automation, and supporting migration projects in regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement automated cloud infrastructure solutions using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitLab, incorporating deployment strategies such as Blue/Green or Canary.
• Collaborate with cloud architects and application teams to deliver secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployments across all SDLC environments.
• Support cloud migration efforts, greenfield deployments, and platform enhancements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure, operating system, and application environment issues.
• Implement infrastructure changes through enterprise change management processes.
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency through automation and monitoring.
• Maintain and improve source code repositories, branching strategies, and automation frameworks.
• Develop and update technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials.
• Ensure compliance with security standards, audit requirements, and operational best practices.
• Mentor team members on cloud technologies, automation tools, and DevOps methodologies.
• Participate in evaluating emerging cloud services and automation technologies.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of hands-on cloud or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Proven experience designing, migrating, and supporting applications in AWS, including AWS GovCloud.
• 4 years of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) experience.
• 3 years of CI/CD pipeline development using GitLab or similar platforms.
• 2 years scripting experience with Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Strong understanding of Git-based source control and branching strategies.
• Experience with AWS services such as VPC, EC2, IAM, Config, GuardDuty, Inspector, and related networking/security services.
• Knowledge of application and infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance metrics.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across technical teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ansible or other configuration management tools.
• Familiarity with DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
• Experience with automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, and non-functional requirements.
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives or mentor junior engineers.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
• HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification.
• Experience supporting highly regulated or enterprise-scale cloud environments.
