What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Athletic Trainer position at Delaware Valley University?
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Provides coverage of athletic activities and advises on prevention and care of athletic injuries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide athletic event medical coverage at collegiate athletic events and practices for assigned teams and provide appropriate triage decisions on site.
- Provide evaluation and treatment of all intercollegiate athletic injuries suffered at practice or during competition and refer to a physician when necessary.
- Make recommendations for exercise or physical rehabilitation measures for athletic injuries.
- Coordinate communication between student athletes and the team physicians and/or appropriate medical professionals.
- Provide needed pre-event and pre-practice preparations (e.g., taping, wrapping, padding, etc.).
- Work in coordination with the Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, Health Services, Public Safety, and coaches to implement Emergency Action Plans at their assigned locations.
- Organize and maintain medical records of student athletes and other statistics related to athletic injuries, in a confidential manner.
- Perform necessary administrative duties to ensure smooth daily operation of the Athletic Training Room.
- Assists in training and overseeing student workers.
- Maintain professional rapport with other medical professionals and members of the university community.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to evaluate and treat all athletic injuries suffered at practice or during competition.
- Be able to recognize when student athletes need to be referred to a physician or emergency medical care when necessary.
- Ability to make recommendations and develop exercises and/or physical rehabilitation plans for athletic injuries.
- Proficient at using various computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong written skills for documentation.
Education and Experience:
- Graduated from an accredited (CAATE) athletic training program.
- Current certification with the Board of Certification.
- Current professional license with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Current American Red Cross certification for the Professional Rescuer CPR certification or equal level.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must hold valid driver’s license
- Occasional prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasionally lifting 50-75 lbs. or less
- Standing or walking throughout the day
- Bending, crouching, when caring for athletes
- Outdoor exposure to weather
- May be exposed to human pathogens
- Exposure to unpleasant odors
- High noise environment
- High dust and dirt environment
- Will have an alternative work schedule
- May be required to be on-call
- Travel to games as necessary
