What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant/Associate Professor Animal Science position at Delaware Valley University?
Job Summary:
This position is a 9-month tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor Animal Science with these requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in Animal Science or a closely related field.
- Five or more years of agriculture animal experience.
- Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.
Candidates will be required to teach courses such as Introduction to Animal Science (both lecture and lab), as well as production courses like Beef Science and Swine Science. Additionally, they may need to address current issues as required by the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach courses relating to Animal and Dairy Science, Farm Management, Livestock Careers, and current issues.
- Teach at least 12 contact hours (4 classes per semester) of undergraduate Animal Science classes.
- Plan and execute all tasks involved with teaching a college-level class such as developing a syllabus and course content, activities, and assessments; use Canvas as a course management tool
- Be the champion and primary student advisor for Animal Science
- Assist with recruiting to Animal Science
- Provide academic and career advice to Animal and Dairy undergraduate and students
- Develop a network and regularly communicate with professionals in Animal and Dairy Science.
- Assist in updating curricula
- Involvement in student activities outside the classroom relating to Animal Science
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Broad knowledge of Animal and Dairy Science, with a focus on production of animal products. Working familiarity with current issues in Animal and Dairy Science and agricultural policy.
- Teaching skills.
Education and Experience :
- Candidates must have a M.S degree or higher in Animal or Dairy Science or a related field
- Experience teaching at the college-level is preferred along with experience planning content and activities for course lectures and labs as well as curriculum development and use of classroom management software.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Typically standing or walking
- Able to lift 25 pounds
- Able to respond quickly to emergency situations
