Defiance County Job & Family Services - Social Services Worker II
The Board of Commissioners of Defiance County, Ohio, is accepting applications for the position of Social Services Worker II. This position is a full-time, 36-hour position; Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Full-time employees are entitled to paid holidays, eligible for County health insurance, and earn vacation time. All County employees are participants in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
The primary duties for this position include investigating and assessing families in which allegations of abuse and neglect of children have been reported; conduct individual interviews, make collateral contacts, and collect social histories to complete various assessments. These assessments include but are not limited to, safety assessments of immediate risk of harm, family risk assessments and ongoing case assessments.
This position also provides other services such as referrals for further assessments and other community services to help assist in reducing the risk of harm to children and their families. Removing children who have been abused and or neglected or at imminent risk of abuse and or neglect if arrangements cannot be made to have them remain safely in their own homes. Maintain a caseload of families in need of services (e.g. prevention, early intervention, ongoing cases, foster care and adoption). Services to be provided may include case planning, referral, counseling, case management, advocating, parent education, participation in multi-disciplinary teams, out of home placement and care, working with various community agencies, visitation, reunification, evaluation and case closure.
The candidate must meet procedural deadlines governing the management of social services cases set by the State of Ohio and ensure that this documentation is complete, accurate, and timely. This position serves as on-call social service worker (e.g. on weekends, holidays and after business hours).
Other duties include preparing assigned cases for administrative or judicial procedures as required; participating in legal actions and testifies in court; performing Day Care licensing duties; working with law enforcement to process cases as needed; plans, develops and/or implements comprehensive agency service programs (e.g. drug abuse, prevention, elder care, homemaker skills, social skills, anger management, and hospital after care programs).
The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in social services, criminal justice or other related fields. Must have possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Pay range for this position is $21.01 - $33.28 per hour.
