Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our financial team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage core accounting functions, ensure accurate financial record-keeping, and support the organization’s financial health. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and software systems. Your expertise will help streamline financial processes, maintain compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and contribute to the overall success of our organization.

Duties

  • Perform daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, journal entries, and maintaining the general ledger using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Workday
  • Reconcile accounts on a regular basis, including balance sheet reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable management, and account analysis
  • Manage payroll processing using platforms like ADP, Paychex, Ceridian, or UltiPro while ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and tax requirements
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and summaries to support management decision-making and audit readiness
  • Conduct internal controls review in accordance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) standards to ensure data accuracy and prevent fraud
  • Assist with governmental accounting procedures and non-profit accounting practices as needed
  • Support budgeting processes, tax filings, and audit preparations by providing accurate financial data

Requirements

  • Proven experience in corporate or governmental accounting with a solid understanding of GAAP and financial concepts
  • Proficiency in multiple accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or Workday; familiarity with payroll management systems like ADP or Paychex is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation techniques
  • Experience with financial analysis including account analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, and budget tracking
  • Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy (10 key typing skills preferred)
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance standards and experience working within public accounting or government environments is a plus
  • Strong math skills combined with attention to detail and organizational abilities
