Qualifications:

Hold a valid Tennessee teaching license with the appropriate CTE endorsement for the subject area.

Candidates with relevant industry experience may qualify for a Practitioner Occupational License while completing an approved educator preparation program.

Industry experience: Depending on the license pathway, a minimum amount of relevant work experience in the subject is required.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans and curriculum tailored to the specific CTE program, following TDOE and local district guidelines.
  2. Instruct students in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, and technology associated with the course.
  3. Provide a balance of theoretical and practical, hands-on learning experiences to ensure skill development.
  4. Assess student performance through both formal and informal methods, including projects, written exams, and practical skills assessments.
  5. Manage and maintain the classroom, lab, and equipment to ensure a safe and functional learning environment.
  6. Enforce classroom and safety rules, taking all necessary precautions to protect students, materials, and equipment.
  7. Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and all other required documentation.
  8. Work with special education teachers to modify curriculum and accommodations for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  9. Establish and advise a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), such as FBLA or SkillsUSA.
  10. Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and industry professionals to arrange work-based learning, internships, and advisory committee meetings.
  11. Attend required staff development activities, meetings, and conferences to stay current with industry trends and teaching methodologies.
  12. Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance and program goals.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Requires standing, sitting, moving about for sustained periods, and potentially lifting or moving heavy objects.

The role may include supervising students in potentially hazardous settings, requiring constant awareness of safety protocols.

Tools/Equipment Used:

The tools and equipment used by a CTE teacher vary widely depending on the subject matter.

Posture:

Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion:

Frequent repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of the mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting:

Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (15–50 pounds)

Environment:

Work is conducted in a typical school and/or technical laboratory environment.

Mental Demands:

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
