What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Interior Designer position at DBSI?
Design Culture (What It’s Like Here)
We’re the team people like working with—collaborative, approachable, and genuinely into design. We spend our days exploring ideas, looking at interesting work, and engaging in real design dialogue with each other and our clients. It’s a relaxed, engaging environment where good work happens—and by Friday afternoons, the pace naturally lightens as we wrap up the week.
The Role
This is an entry-level interior design role where you’ll support projects across multiple phases while building a strong foundation in both creative and technical skills. We work on projects at a national scale, giving team members a variety of experiences across various jurisdictions.
You’ll work closely with experienced designers, contribute to real projects, and gain exposure to how interior environments come together from concept through construction in a design-build environment.
What We’re Looking For
- 1-3 years of interior design experience (internships count)
- Degree in Interior Design or related field
- Brings a well-rounded, adaptable skillset—comfortable moving between design work, coordination, and team support tasks, and open to learning whatever is needed to elevate the final work product
- Proficiency in:
- Revit (including Revit Family creation / editing)
- Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
- Adobe Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, etc.)
- Some experience with material selection, FF&E, and spatial design
- Ability to support both design and documentation work
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Clear communication and collaborative mindset
- Eagerness to learn codes, detailing, and coordination across disciplines
- Ability to work in-person Monday–Friday in Chandler, AZ
- Willingness to travel nationally (5-6 trips per year)
- Nice to have: interest in NCIDQ, IIDA, or ASID
What You’ll Do
- Support collaborative design work (mood boards, presentations, space planning)
- Assist with FF&E selections and material palettes
- Help produce drawings in Revit (plans, elevations, millwork)
- Assist with meeting notes and support project coordination
- Collaborate with internal teams, product vendors, and consultants
- Learn how interior design decisions carry through to construction
Why This Role Is Different
You won’t just work on concepts—you’ll see how materials, furniture, and design decisions perform in real built environments. You’ll gain exposure to how projects are actually built—giving you a clearer understanding of materials, coordination, budgeting, and real project constraints as you grow.
