What are the responsibilities and job description for the PATHOLOGIST - Full Time - Elkins/Weston position at Davis Health System?
Job Summary:
Study of tissues and body fluids to identify any disease that may be present.
This role will service both the Davis Medical Center and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital locations.
Responsibilities:
• Perform studies of all surgical specimens.
• Perform autopsies.
• Review abnormal and other selected genital cytological smears, all non-genital cytological preparations, and all aspiration cytology specimens.
• Review all bone marrow preparations.
• Render timely reports on all reviews/studies.
• Present cases at conferences and meetings.
• Identify diseased body parts or tissues for physicians during surgical procedures, determining the need for removal.
• Communicate with medical staff members.
• Establish standard operating procedures.
• Provide medical direction to support staff.
• Review selected clinical laboratory test results and makes appropriate recommendations to technologists and/or attending physicians.
• Receive and act on problems and questions in Clinical Pathology.
• Consult with laboratory personnel concerning lab problems.
• Participate in selection of sectional supervisors and laboratory equipment.
• Participate in quality assurance activities of the Department of Pathology.
• Maintain department, institution, and licensure (if applicable) required education. Document appropriately.
• Responsible for integrating continuous, quality improvement into department and institution operations, and demonstrate a commitment to the process.
• Support and assist employee participation in the continuous, quality improvement processes
• Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution.
• May be required to perform routine Pathologist duties at other locations as provided for by contracts as needed.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

1. Maintain and document all applicable required education and job knowledge ensuring licensure, credentials and continuing education are actively maintained and timely. 2. Attend mandatory in-service, staff meetings and medical staff meetings as required. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Completes all required competencies on time. 10. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate of an Accredited Medical School. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pathology
Experience/Physical Requirements:
Successful completion of pathology residency required.
Experience in group practice and/or hospital setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Current, or eligibility to obtain, unrestricted West Virginia MD or DO Licensure. Board eligible required. Board Certified preferred. Fully credentialed through medical staff according to pathology services.
