Job Overview
The Sports Card Specialist is responsible for supporting all aspects of the store’s sports card singles business, with a focus on major sports categories including baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and other relevant sports. This role involves working closely with customers and internal teams to purchase, organize, merchandise, and maintain a comprehensive inventory of sports card singles. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports collectibles, strong attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills to enhance the shopping experience and drive the success of the sports card department.
Duties
- Identify, evaluate, price, and purchase sports cards from in-store customers and other sources.
- Assist customers in appraising and selecting sports cards based on their interests and collection goals.
- Organize and maintain the sports card inventory to ensure easy access and accurate stock levels.
- Merchandise sports cards effectively to maximize sales and display appeal.
- Keep detailed records of purchases, sales, and inventory levels for accurate tracking.
- Stay informed about current market trends and values within major sports categories to provide expert guidance.
- Collaborate with team members to develop promotional strategies for the sports card section.
- Ensure all inventory handling complies with store policies and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Passion for sports collectibles and familiarity with major sports leagues such as MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and Soccer.
- Strong knowledge of sports card values, grading standards, and market trends.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory efficiently.
- Good communication skills to assist customers effectively and provide knowledgeable recommendations.
- Previous experience in retail or collectibles is preferred but not required; a keen interest in sports cards is essential.
- Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in pricing and record keeping.
