Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Location: In-person in Newington, CT
SUMMARY
Basic understanding of the operation of a sheetfed press. Assists the 1st operator in the assignments with production and quality in mind. Responds to the first operator needs for the efficient operation of the press. Responsible in assisting to maintain the overall quality of the final printed product, as well as the overall condition of the press and press environment. Replenish consumables at the press as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for job setup, as follows:
- Review job tickets for information on the upcoming job.
- Assist in ensuring all necessary materials and information is on hand prior to the start of the make-ready, such as, plates, paper, proofs, color sample, ink, etc.
- Hang plate
- Change blanket
- Setup and monitor the feeder portion of the press during MR
- Responsible for the production of job, as follows:
- Maintain consistent ink levels. Mix ink, as needed.
- Assist in the inspection and ensure quality of print, including:
- Color
- Register
- Free of imperfections, such as, dry up, hickeys, broken type, etc.
- Ensure the samples are of the best quality possible
- Runability in other departments
- Ability to troubleshoot and assist in the solving of problems as they arise
- Maintain an awareness of schedule, achieving the best possible production speeds
- Wash up press at end of job or shift whichever applies
- Assist the first press operator to promote efficient operation of the press and a clean press environment.
- Communicate press maintenance, supply and safety issues to shift supervisor.
- Assist in the setting and replacing rollers, as required.
- Perform simple maintenance tasks, such as, grease fittings. Assist maintenance staff with major repairs. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, as required.
- Comply with company rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
- Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve quality and operating efficiency of the department.
- Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
- Perform other related duties, as required, to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Trade school, high school or GED preferred plus 2-3 years of experience on offset presses or equivalent.
