- The Marching Band Percussion Director works in collaboration with the Band Director to develop, instruct, and lead the percussion section of the high school marching band program. This position is responsible for the musical and technical development of the battery (drumline) and front ensemble (pit), including rehearsal instruction, music preparation, and performance readiness.The Percussion Director will design and implement instructional strategies that support student growth in percussion technique, musicality, ensemble performance, and marching band performance standards. The position plays an important role in fostering a positive, disciplined, and educational rehearsal environment while supporting the overall artistic vision of the marching band program.Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Band Director to plan and implement rehearsals for the marching band percussion section.
- Provide instruction for both battery (snare, tenor/quads, bass drum, cymbals) and front ensemble/pit percussion.
- Write, arrange, or adapt percussion parts for the drumline and pit that align with the musical and visual design of the marching band show.
- Lead sectional rehearsals and assist with full ensemble rehearsals as needed.
- Teach and reinforce proper percussion technique, musical interpretation, ensemble balance, and performance skills.
- Assist with the coordination and preparation of percussion equipment, instruments, and rehearsal materials.
- Support student leadership within the percussion section and help cultivate a positive and inclusive rehearsal culture.
- Attend and assist with marching band rehearsals and performances as scheduled.
- Work collaboratively with other instructional staff to ensure consistency in musical and visual instruction.Rehearsal Schedule
- Regular rehearsals occur during the marching band season on:
- Mondays: 6:00 PM 8:30 PM
- Wednesdays: 6:00 PM 9:00 PM
- Saturdays: 9:00 AM 12:00 PM
