JOB SUMMARY

The Assembler I performs basic composite assemblies to include assembling, installing, connecting parts, fitting, and bonding components using layout tools, hand tools, power tools, adhesives, and fasteners such as rivets, bolts, screws, and clamps. The Assembler I has a working knowledge of several process specifications, works with simple shapes, and aligns components with jigs or fixtures and utilizes measuring instruments in accordance with customer specifications and company requirements.

The Assembler I directly reports to the Assembly Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Education, Training, and/or Experience 

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in Composite Manufacturing/Aircraft Assembly preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequently required to use eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, and manual dexterity
  • Constantly use hands to hold steady, handle, grasp, or feel
  • Frequently twist and reach to shoulder level
  • Occasionally walk, squat, kneel, use foot controls, or perform vibratory tasks
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Specific vision abilities include close, color, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing level within normal/average range
  • Work with or in the presence of hazardous chemicals, resins, and fiberglass as required (PPE provided as necessary)

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Basic skill in composite bonding, sealing, and potting compounds
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of process specifications and manufacturing plan interpretation
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and safety 
  • Ability to use basic hand and pneumatic tools to drill, countersink, fit, rivet, and finish parts
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in the English language 
  • Use of general math concepts (add, subtract, multiply, and divide), the Standard unit of measurement, and coordinating tools

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Trim, drill, and countersink metal and composite details with tooling/aids
  • Wet and dry installation of permanent and non-permanent fasteners with tooling/aids
  • Apply decorative laminate and pressure sensitive tapes to simple shapes
  • Measure, mix, and apply adhesives, epoxies, potting compounds, and moldable shims
  • Bond and assemble small to medium and/or simple assemblies with tooling/aids
  • Complete work with expected quality and accuracy; completing and following all documentation provided
  • Manage time and workflow through personal work area with direction
  • Maintain material quantities and operation requirements (Acceptance Authority Media) throughout all work
  • Maintain a safe, organized, FOD-free work area with a focus on lean principles as instructed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
