LJC Teacher's Assistant

PURPOSE:   

The Teacher’s Aide/Teacher’s Assistant will assist the Lead Teachers with their daily schedule within their classrooms, with breaks, and around the gardens and school.  They will act as team support as needed.

• Classroom Management

1. 1. Assists in creating an inviting learning environment inside and outside garden areas
   2. Maintains a sanitized, clean, healthy and safe environment indoors as well as outdoors.
   3. Assists in the needs of the children: diaper changes, feedings, and nap requirements
   4. Is prepared for the day’s activities and handles transition well
   5. Is tactful with negative information
   6. Shows respect for those from diverse backgrounds and maintains confidentiality.
   7. Seeks partnership with parents and involves them in center activities and events.

• Enjoys working as part of a team, is flexible about assigned duties, strives to assume a fair share of work, communicates directly and avoids gossip
• Enjoys and assists in maintaining of school, gardens, and orchard areas (painting, gardening, & annual maintenance of school grounds).
• Assists the lead teachers in daily activities
• Assist in giving teacher breaks
• Must be able to get on and off the floor.
• Has the ability to lift 25lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• TB Test
• Merit background check and fingerprint if applicable
• Current Food Handlers Permit
• Current CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens certified
• Maintains a current STARS/MERIT training (10 hrs.) annually
• Preferred Qualifications: Some ECE credits and past experience. Some knowledge.
• Other related duties as assigned by the ECE director (including maintaining the school grounds within the garden and orchard areas).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

AA/BA degree in ECE or current CDA
