The Role

The Managing Director of Leadership Programs is responsible for the implementation and ongoing improvement of the DRC’s Leadership Dallas and Leadership Dallas Alumni leadership programs. This individual will engage the business community by supporting the development of leaders to help meet the Dallas Region’s needs for a qualified workforce. This employee supports all affiliates of the Chamber as required. The employee’s primary duty is the performance of non-manual work directly related to the business operations of the Chamber and its affiliates. This position must exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance including (i) leadership program implementation and (ii) program member recruitment. Additionally, this position requires skills involving community engagement and event management.

 

Reporting Structure 

This individual will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Membership and Leadership Programs and assist with overall operations of this team.

Key Responsibilities 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The duties and responsibilities include the following, though other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Implement and oversee the DRC’s key leadership development programs, with specific oversight of Leadership Dallas and Leadership Dallas Alumni. 
  • Manage team responsible for Young Professionals, Lead YP programming and events, and Leadership Programs Coordinator who supports the department. 
  • Develop, organize, and implement the program’s annual program of work, including development of events and volunteer opportunities, membership recruitment and retention tactics, and marketing efforts to prospective members and the community at large.  
  • Drive all project management, deliverables, and deadlines on a year-long calendar of events for LD, LD Alumni, and oversight of all YP and Lead YP events.  Execute work with meticulous attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Partner with the DRC event team driving clear roles and responsibilities to determine logistics including venue locations, food and beverage needs, sponsorships, speaker confirmations, agenda, set-up and supply needs, marketing and registration process. 
  • Demonstrate seamless ability to work with high-level external stakeholders and drive the work through project management with planning committees throughout the year. Leadership Dallas and Leadership Programs represent a significant member engagement opportunity for the DRC through sponsorship, Board member relationships, and is a premier program representing high-quality programming.   
  • Oversee and manage budget for the department, including the sponsorship and expense budgets to achieve department expectations.  
  • Actively interact with program Boards and committees to ensure assigned work is being done, resources are being provided when needed, and content is being overseen. This could include after-hour meetings, events, and conference calls.
  • Work closely with SVP and senior leadership team to adhere to strong processes regarding DRC Board member engagement. Oversee selection process of program Advisory Council and onboarding new members. 
  • Work with organization to recruit new members to apply for program, including through the preparation of application materials, applicant data collection, and oversight of selection process and committee.  
  • Implement regular meetings with, surveys of, and open communication with volunteers and companies involved in programs. Act as a facilitator when problems arise, either with program members or volunteers, with the ability to resolve situations effectively and efficiently. 
  • Work in partnership with the VP of Membership on developing and curating engagement opportunities for members and Board relationships.  
  • Provide staff support for reports given to the DRC’s Board of Directors. 
  • Utilize a data-driven approach to strategy and tactics to drive decisions, through use of the DRC’s database. 
  • Assist with the creation of program materials, marketing materials and updating of the program's website. 
  • Exercise proactive professionalism and enthusiasm for operational excellence in building department initiatives through LD Class Project, LD Alumni network future programming. This includes managing all stakeholder relationships tied to programming for LD and Lead YP class curriculum, inclusive of consultants. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to execute deliverables including website, e-newsletters, social media outlets, etc.  
  • Represent DRC at various events. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Professional and comprehensive experience in an applicable field and/or with an organization that is similar in mission and activities to the DRC.
  • This role requires experience in processes and project management to drive operational excellence. Event coordination experience is highly desirable in a teamwork environment.
