Technical Accounting Director
We are currently seeking candidates for a Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Associate Director position with a global biopharmaceutical company based in Boston, MA. This role will focus on complex technical accounting, quarter-end reporting, and supporting key finance functions with a high level of analytical and reporting precision.
This is a 6 month contract opportunity, paying $90–$95 per hour (depending on experience). This role supports a hybrid model (3 days onsite in Boston), with a target start date in mid-January.
Responsibilities:
• Perform complex technical accounting research and draft detailed accounting position papers across areas such as collaboration accounting, revenue recognition, consolidation, business combinations, and impairment testing.
• Oversee quarter-end and global-to-report processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC standards.
• Partner with FP&A to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
• Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of company accounting policies.
• Prepare high-quality write-ups and supporting documentation for auditors and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor new accounting and regulatory developments, assessing their impact and leading implementation efforts.
• Supervise and mentor team members, fostering professional development and technical excellence.
• Collaborate cross-functionally on special projects and ad hoc initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
• CPA certification (required).
• 8 years of progressive accounting and reporting experience from a Big 4 public accounting firm or large public company.
• Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs).
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with exceptional writing and documentation ability.
• Proven experience implementing new accounting standards.
• Life sciences or biotechnology industry experience preferred (but not required).
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Not suited for candidates whose background is primarily focused on general ledger or fixed assets.
