What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Senior Accountant position at Dagen?
Our client is a government entity and located in Northwest Houston. We are seeking a senior accountant for 6 months contract or longer. This will pay up to $88,000. Onsite daily.
Non-profit, government or construction accounting background would be preferred. 10 new projects are planned to be built in the next two years. Project accounting would also be helpful.
Essential Job Functions – Performs all work duties and activities following Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety guidelines, Personnel Handbook, and Senior Leadership Orders.
- Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Perform and independently manage complex GL reconciliations for all financials
- Work with Finance Director and Controller to perform variance analysis and produce the monthly and annual financial report, including trending and analysis of results.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and professional
- Stay current with evolving accounting and financial regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement (seminars, continuing education, etc).
- Enter and verify bank transactions across multiple accounts with strict
- Lead credit card reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile revenue logs and prepare for revenue
- Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals and
- Process and verify accounts payable invoices, ensuring proper coding and
- Support invoice entry during peak periods to meet weekly check run
- Maintain accurate and organized financial and business
- Ensure filing systems are current, audit-ready, and compliant with retention
- Manage fixed asset tracking, reconciliations, and disposal
- Prepare audit schedules and support year-end close
- Assist in developing and improving accounting processes and internal
- Prepare financial correspondence, reports, and summaries as
- Perform other accounting, financial, administrative tasks as required, often on short
5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including full-cycle general ledger work
- Experience in governmental, nonprofit, or fund accounting preferred, or construction.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, GASB standards, and fund accounting preferred
- Experience using accounting software, preferably Dynamics GP with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize workflows.
- Strong analytical skills to include variance analysis, trend analysis and financial reporting
- Extremely high attention to detail and accuracy with complex numerical data
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize competing deadlines, and manage multiple financial cycles
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, PowerQuery, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling)
- Proven ability to coordinate across divisions and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial personnel
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism
- Thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume finance environment
A. Education/Degrees:
- Must have a high school diploma with years of experience to counter not having a degree.
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting
