Position Overview
As a NETA Technician II, you will perform advanced electrical testing, maintenance, and commissioning of power systems and equipment in critical facilities including data centers. Position Overview
As a NETA Technician II, you will perform advanced electrical testing, maintenance, and commissioning of power systems and equipment in critical facilities including data centers. You will execute and document NETA-compliant tests on transformers, switchgear, protective relays, generators, and associated electrical distribution equipment, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and support installation and preventive maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform NETA-compliant testing and commissioning of electrical equipment, including power transformers, switchgear, protective relays, circuit breakers, and UPS systems.
- Execute insulation power factor/dissipation factor, transformer turns ratio, winding resistance, sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA), hipot, Doble testing, and relay calibration and testing according to industry standards.
- Document test procedures, results, and corrective recommendations clearly and accurately using company reporting systems and NETA forms.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults and collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to implement corrective actions and repairs.
- Support preventive maintenance programs and periodic testing schedules for data centers, commercial facilities, and industrial sites to minimize downtime and maximize equipment life.
- Follow and promote safe work practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintain compliance with NFPA 70E and site-specific safety requirements.
- Assist with installation and startup of electrical equipment and support field engineers during complex commissioning activities.
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior technicians and help maintain organized calibration and test equipment inventory.
- Travel to client sites as required and work flexible hours to support emergency call-outs or planned outages.
- NETA Level II certification preferred (or equivalent documented field experience and training in electrical testing).
- 3 years of hands-on experience performing electrical testing and maintenance on medium- and high-voltage equipment, preferably in data center or critical facility environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, transformers, protective relays, switchgear, circuit breakers, and UPS systems.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., hipot testers, transformer test sets, relay test sets, insulation resistance meters, power quality analyzers) and familiarity with test procedures and standards.
- Working knowledge of NETA/ATS standards, NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices for safe electrical work.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and client interaction.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites; ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends for outages.
- Ability to lift and handle test equipment and tools; capable of working in confined spaces and elevated locations as required.
