Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The primary purpose of this role is to perform mechanical and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to keep production equipment running safely and reliably during the overnight shift. The ideal candidate will work independently with minimal supervision, respond quickly to breakdowns, execute preventative maintenance tasks, and support continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment failures during the 4th shift to minimize downtime and restore production.
- Perform installation, repair, and adjustment of control systems, power systems, motors, gearboxes, chains, sprockets, belts, pulleys, and associated mechanical components.
- Diagnose and support PLC controls and other automation components (nice-to-have), working with control schematics to identify faults and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct preventative maintenance tasks, inspections, lubrication, and routine adjustments based on maintenance schedules and equipment manuals.
- Maintain and repair pneumatic systems, compressors, blowers, solenoids, valves, cylinders, and flow control devices.
- Service and troubleshoot AC and DC motors, drives, motor starters, and related power distribution equipment.
- Work on bulk material handling equipment including mills, scalpers, sifters, bulk rail material systems, bulk material trucks, conveyors, bagging systems, and feeders.
- Support robotic systems and integration points with conveyors and bagging where required (nice-to-have).
- Operate and inspect forklifts and other shop equipment safely during material moves and equipment servicing.
- Perform mechanical alignment, belt and chain replacement, gearbox servicing, and industrial lubrication per manufacturer recommendations.
- Complete accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts usage records in the CMMS; communicate status and handoffs to day shift personnel.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement projects to reduce repeat failures and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Follow all safety policies including lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE use, and report hazardous conditions promptly.
- Support inventory control of spare parts and recommend stocking levels for critical components.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3 years of hands-on industrial maintenance or mechanic experience
- Strong working knowledge of control systems and power systems, including the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills and proven experience with maintenance of AC and DC motors, gearboxes, chains, sprockets, belts, pulleys, and conveyors.
- Experience with pneumatic equipment, compressors, blowers, solenoids, valves, cylinders, and flow control devices.
- Familiarity with PLC controls, robotic systems, bagging systems, mills, scalpers, sifters, bulk rail and bulk material handling equipment is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, industrial lubricants, and lubrication schedules.
- Ability to operate a forklift and other material handling equipment; valid forklift certification preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently during overnight shifts.
- Good communication skills to document work, coordinate with team members, and escalate issues appropriately.
