Job Title: Lead CNC Set Up Machinist - Lathe & Mill Turn
Location: Morgan Hill, CA on-site
Compensation: $38.00 - $45.00/hr - OT available on Fridays - Full Benefits
Shift Hours: M-F 6:00AM - 4:30PM
Requirements: HS Diploma or GED, 5 Mill turn /Lathe Setup experience, Lead Machinist experience preferred, GD&T
A well established precision CNC Manufacturing company is seeking an experienced CNC Seup Lead to oversee their Lathe Millturn operatiions on the day shift. This is a hands on leadership role for a strong set up machinist who enjoys mentoring and driving efficient production
Position Overview
Lead and mentor a team of machinists to deliver precision CNC turning and mill-turn components. Responsible for machine setup, programming, operation and process optimization on lathes and mill-turn centers to meet production, quality and safety targets. Drive continuous improvement through tooling selection, cycle time reduction, troubleshooting and adherence to specifications and ISO9001 quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily CNC machining operations for lathe and mill-turn platforms, prioritize jobs and assign tasks to meet production schedules.
- Perform and oversee lathe/mill-turn set ups and first article approvals
- Bring new parts in to production in partnership with Engineering and Quality departments
- Validate parts using manual inspection methods
- Monitor and improve set up and cycle times, and scrap rates
- Help drive continuous improvement within the department
- Develop, validate and optimize toolpaths and cutting strategies to improve cycle time, surface finish and tool life.
- Train, mentor and coach machinists and apprentices on setup, safe operation, best practices, and continuous improvement (Lean/5S).
Qualifications Required:
- HS diploma or GED or Technical diploma, journeyman/machinist certification or equivalent combination of education and practical experience
- 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience with proven expertise in CNC turning and CNC milling; strong lathe and mill-turn setup skills.
- Strong Blueprint reading skills including GD&T
- Natural Leader, ability and willingness to guide small shop floor teams
- Basic computer systems and manufacturing metrics
- Clear communicator with hands on problem solving
Not Required but preferred
- 10 or more years of lathe and mill-turn setup experience
- Previousl lead or supervisory experience in a machine shop setting
- Degree or Technical Training in Manufacturing or machining
- Bilingual English & Spanish
