Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Project Manager to lead commercial, industrial, healthcare, and multifamily HVAC projects from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical HVAC and mechanical knowledge with proven construction project management skills to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards while maintaining excellent client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of HVAC projects including pre-construction, procurement, installation, commissioning, and closeout for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and multifamily facilities.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; track performance and implement corrective actions to meet milestones and financial targets.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and in-house field teams to ensure work is completed to contract specifications, code requirements, and quality standards.
- Review plans and specifications, prepare scopes of work, pricing packages, and change order documentation; evaluate and process RFIs and submittals.
- Lead site meetings with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, and trades to resolve issues, coordinate schedules, and maintain project alignment.
- Oversee equipment procurement and delivery schedules, ensuring timely installation of HVAC systems and components and managing long-lead items.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies; conduct regular site inspections and enforce corrective measures.
- Manage commissioning and start-up activities, oversee testing and balancing, and ensure systems operate per design intent and owner requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, meeting minutes, change orders, invoices, and closeout manuals.
- Mentor and develop junior project staff, promote best practices in project management, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of experience and certifications considered.
- 5 years of project management experience in HVAC or mechanical construction, including commercial, industrial, healthcare, or multifamily projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, piping, ductwork, equipment selection, and commissioning processes.
- Proven experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and change orders; familiarity with cost control and risk management.
- Experience with construction documentation and processes: RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, commissioning plans, and closeout procedures.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and resolve conflicts.
- Working knowledge of building codes, mechanical codes, NFPA standards, and healthcare-specific HVAC requirements (e.g., infection control, negative/positive pressure rooms) preferred.
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Procore, Buildertrend, or similar), and familiarity with CAD/BIM is a plus.
- Safety-minded with OSHA training and experience enforcing jobsite safety protocols; certifications such as OSHA 30, NATE, or HVAC/R-specific credentials are a plus.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management credential and a valid drivers license are desirable.
