First-Party Property Coverage Attorney
Complex Coverage Analysis | Coverage Litigation | Direct Client Advisory Role
Are you a coverage attorney who enjoys analyzing complex property insurance claims, tackling challenging policy interpretation questions, and serving as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients?
Our growing insurance coverage practice is seeking a First-Party Property Coverage Attorney to handle high-level coverage analysis, opinion work, and coverage litigation involving commercial and residential property losses. This is an opportunity to work on intellectually challenging matters, collaborate directly with clients and claims professionals, and play a key role in shaping coverage strategy and litigation outcomes.
We are seeking an attorney who is passionate about insurance coverage law and wants to build a long-term practice focused on first-party property claims, coverage counseling, and complex coverage disputes.
Why Join Us?
- Handle sophisticated first-party property coverage matters rather than high-volume insurance defense files.
- Work directly with insurers, claims professionals, and business decision-makers.
- Gain meaningful responsibility and autonomy over your cases.
- Litigate complex coverage disputes and declaratory judgment actions.
- Collaborate with experienced coverage attorneys and industry professionals.
- Opportunity for mentorship, professional development, and advancement.
- Hybrid and flexible work arrangements available.
What You'll Do
As a member of our coverage team, you will:
- Analyze complex first-party property claims and evaluate coverage issues under a variety of policy forms.
- Interpret policies, endorsements, exclusions, conditions, and applicable coverage provisions.
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial letters, and other coverage-related communications.
- Advise clients on coverage exposure, claim strategy, bad faith considerations, and resolution options.
- Manage coverage litigation through all phases, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial preparation.
- Collaborate with claims professionals, in-house counsel, experts, and defense counsel to develop effective litigation and coverage strategies.
- Research and analyze emerging developments in insurance law and first-party property coverage.
- Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Mentor junior attorneys and legal staff as appropriate.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar admission in good standing.
- At least 3 years of insurance coverage, property insurance, or coverage litigation experience.

- Ability to independently manage matters and provide practical legal advice.
Preferred Experience
- Significant experience handling first-party property coverage matters.
- Coverage opinion drafting and policy interpretation.
- Reservation of rights and denial letters.
- Coverage litigation and declaratory judgment actions.
- Commercial property and homeowners' policy analysis.
- Property loss claims involving weather events, fire losses, water damage, business interruption, builders risk, or catastrophe-related claims.
- Experience counseling insurers, reinsurers, or large corporate policyholders.
- Deposition, mediation, and courtroom experience.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate combines strong legal writing and analytical skills with a practical understanding of insurance claims and business realities. They enjoy solving complex coverage issues, communicating directly with clients, and developing creative strategies to resolve high-value coverage disputes.
