Senior Operational Finance Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Operational Finance Manager to lead financial planning, analysis, and operational finance activities for our construction portfolio. This role combines deep finance expertise with hands-on construction cost management to drive accurate budgeting, forecasting, reporting and performance measurement across projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced finance manager who can partner with project teams, improve processes and systems (including ERP/EPM), and translate financial data into action to support strategic decisions and deliver operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operational finance function for construction projects including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and monthly/quarterly close activities.
- Develop, maintain and improve financial models, KPI dashboards and rolling forecasts to provide timely insights to senior leadership and project teams.
- Partner with project managers, operations and commercial teams to monitor project performance, identify risks and opportunities, and implement corrective actions to protect margins and schedules.
- Oversee cost control processes, including job costing, variance analysis, change order tracking and revenue recognition for construction contracts.
- Manage and streamline financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance with accounting standards and timely delivery of management and external reports.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes and systems (ERP and EPM), including configuration, integrations, data quality and automation initiatives.
- Lead, coach and develop a small team of finance professionals; set objectives, review performance and build capability in financial planning and analysis.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, liaise with tax and compliance teams, and ensure adherence to corporate policies and construction-specific regulatory requirements.
- Support capital planning, procurement evaluations and business case analysis for major investments and project decisions.
- Serve as a finance business partner on strategic initiatives, M&A support and cross-functional projects to ensure financial discipline and effective execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field; CCIFP, CMA, or CPA preferred.
- 8 years of experience in construction finance, project accounting, or operational finance; 3 years in leadership role.
- Proven management experience leading finance teams and influencing cross-functional project stakeholders.
- Strong technical skills in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with ERP and EPM systems; hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion ERP and Cloud EPM is highly desirable.
- Deep knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, revenue recognition, change order and contract accounting practices.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel and financial reporting tools; experience building KPI dashboards and management reports.
