We are seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of industrial automation systems. This role is well suited for an engineer with solid controls experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility while continuing to learn and grow in a collaborative, project-based environment.
What You Will Do- Develop, program, test, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC platforms such as ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix
- Create and modify ladder logic, structured text, and function block routines following established standards
- Support system commissioning activities, including onsite startup and troubleshooting
- Assist with automation upgrades, system improvements, and post-installation support
- Program and support industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar), with guidance as needed
- Integrate robotics, vision systems, and third-party equipment with PLC and SCADA environments
- Support robotic applications including assembly, material handling, packaging, and custom automation
- Perform robot teaching, path adjustments, and cycle-time optimization
- Collaborate with vendors and integrators on panel builds, robotic integration, and SCADA development
- Apply applicable standards such as UL 508A, NFPA 79, and ISO 13849 with guidance from senior engineers
- Size and select motors, drives, sensors, safety devices, and automation components
- Support the design of electrical control panels, including schematics, layouts, and component selection
- Create and maintain technical documentation including wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and build instructions
- Assist panel build technicians during fabrication and assembly as needed
- Integrate PLCs, HMIs, robots, sensors, drives, and related automation equipment
- Implement and support industrial networks and communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, PROFINET, and EtherCAT
- Follow safety, regulatory, and machine-guarding requirements throughout project execution
- 4 years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
- Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming using Studio 5000
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools
- Experience with control panel design and industrial electrical systems
- Familiarity with industrial wiring practices and automation hardware
- Ability to troubleshoot automation issues in manufacturing or production environments
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Exposure to SCADA systems such as Ignition, AVEVA Edge or InduSoft, FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, or similar
- Experience developing or supporting HMI interfaces such as PanelView or comparable platforms
- Familiarity with machine safety standards including ISO 13849, NFPA 79, and ANSI or RIA guidelines
- Hands-on experience with industrial robots or robotic cells
- Exposure to machine vision or inspection systems
- Interest in growing toward technical leadership or system integration roles
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
- Willingness to travel as needed for commissioning and support activities
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and improve
