The attorney will lead case strategy from intake through trial and appeal, handle discovery and motion practice, participate in alternative dispute resolution, and provide proactive counsel to minimize risk. The role requires demonstrated strength in Commercial Litigation (required) and the ability to manage a diverse docket while collaborating with colleagues and clients on related business-driven issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of commercial litigation matters, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
- Draft and file complaints, answers, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents with precision and persuasive advocacy.
- Conduct and defend depositions, take and oppose hearings, and make courtroom appearances as needed.
- Manage discovery processes including e-discovery, document requests, production, privilege review, and witness preparation.
- Represent clients in mediation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations; develop cost-effective resolution strategies.
- Counsel clients on risk mitigation, contractual disputes, breach of contract claims, and related business matters throughout the life of the engagement.
- Coordinate with in-house counsel, external experts, and co-counsel to build cohesive case strategies and manage litigation budgets.
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff; delegate tasks and review work product to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Perform thorough legal research and stay current on developments in commercial law, court rules, and precedent relevant to client matters.
- Support or lead ancillary matters related to business operations such as business formation inquiries, corporate restructuring advice, or bankruptcy-related issues when litigation intersects with these areas.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the state bar where litigation will be practiced.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of litigation experience with demonstrable focus on Commercial Litigation (required).
- Proven experience in drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and managing discovery in complex commercial matters; trial and arbitration experience preferred.
- Strong oral advocacy, negotiation, and client-counseling skills with a track record of effective courtroom and ADR outcomes.
- Excellent legal research, writing, organization, and case management abilities; comfortable managing multiple matters and deadlines.
- Experience supervising junior attorneys and working collaboratively in a team-based litigation practice.
- Familiarity with litigation technology and e-discovery platforms; efficient use of document management and billing systems.
- Nice to have: experience or familiarity with Business Litigation, Bankruptcy Litigation, Mediation, Arbitration, Commercial Disputes, Breach of Contract matters, Business Divorce, Business Formation, and Corporate Restructuring.
- Demonstrated professionalism, ethical judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
