Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of construction projects from inception through closeout. The Senior Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and the Accounting team to ensure accurate job costing, billing, contract administration, reporting, and compliance with company policies and client requirements. This role is critical to maintaining the financial health of projects and ensuring timely, accurate reporting in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Manage project setup, budgets, cost codes, and contract documentation within the accounting system
- Monitor project costs, commitments, change orders, and budget variances
- Track and reconcile subcontractor and vendor invoices against project budgets
- Prepare and process client billings, including AIA progress billings and time-and-material invoices
- Assist Project Managers with forecasting project costs and profitability
Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate job cost records and supporting documentation
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
- Reconcile project-related general ledger accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Review and process subcontractor pay applications and lien waivers
Contract & Compliance Administration
- Support contract administration, including insurance certificates, bonding documentation, and compliance tracking
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, accounting standards, and company policies
- Assist with audits and provide documentation as requested
- Coordinate with project teams to resolve billing or payment discrepancies
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insight and support decision-making
- Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based industries
- Strong understanding of job costing, construction billing, and project accounting principles
- Experience with ERP/accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Knowledge of AIA billing processes preferred
Salary : $100,000 - $120,000
