Our client, a rapidly growing advisory-focused CPA firm, is seeking a Real Estate Tax Accountant with a strong background in real estate taxation and rental property reporting. This role offers the opportunity to specialize in complex real estate tax matters while working directly with investors, rental property owners, and closely held real estate entities. This role offers fully remote or hybrid flexibility work environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys the technical side of taxation and wants to deepen their expertise in depreciation, cost segregation, passive activity rules, real estate professional status, and partnership taxation. While the position includes some client interaction, it is primarily focused on tax preparation, technical analysis, and compliance work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review complex individual and business tax returns with significant real estate activity
- Prepare Schedule E, Form 8825, partnership, and other real estate-focused returns
- Manage depreciation schedules, fixed asset records, and cost segregation implementations
- Assist with IRC Section 481(a) calculations and accounting method changes
- Research and analyze issues involving passive activity limitations, material participation, REPS qualification, and rental real estate strategies
- Support tax planning initiatives and prepare client tax projections
- Respond to client questions regarding rental properties, depreciation, and real estate transactions
- Assist with tax notices and other compliance matters related to real estate investments
- Collaborate with tax leadership on complex client engagements and technical research
Qualifications
- CPA or EA credential preferred (or actively pursuing)
- 2 years of public accounting tax experience
- Hands-on experience with rental property taxation and real estate entities
- Familiarity with Schedule E, Form 8825, depreciation, and partnership taxation
- Strong technical tax research and analytical skills
- Ability to clearly communicate complex tax issues to both clients and internal stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
