Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Dev/Research Engineer 2. The work will be performed onsite at a technical center in Mossville, Illinois. This is a 24-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is $36/hr full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
The Dev/Research Engineer 2 will support the execution of engine tests for advanced large-engine and dual-fuel development programs. This engineer will work closely with development engineers, test-cell operators, facility teams, instrumentation specialists, and mechanics to ensure that engine and test-cell configurations meet established test objectives. The position focuses on test preparation, troubleshooting, data acquisition, hardware issue documentation, and the efficient completion of development test plans. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced engineering environment involving advanced engine technology.
Key Responsibilities
• Support, direct, and mentor test-cell operators during engine testing activities
• Prepare engine and test-cell configurations according to test plans and technical objectives
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, engine, instrumentation, and test-cell issues
• Coordinate with facilities, instrumentation, mechanics, and other support teams to resolve technical problems
• Document engine hardware, test-cell, and equipment issues accurately and thoroughly
• Review upcoming test plans with senior engineers and prepare required equipment and hardware
• Participate in daily stand-up and shift handoff meetings supporting continuous test operations
• Communicate test progress, troubleshooting findings, action plans, and results to the technical team
• Research, develop, manufacture, and test mechanical tools, engines, machines, and related devices
• Review specifications, manuals, drawings, and design proposals to assess technical feasibility
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience; qualifying internship experience may be considered
• Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical test setups and data-acquisition equipment
• Experience with testing, data analysis, or hands-on work involving large diesel engines
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems and identify effective corrective actions
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and computer-generated reports
• Ability to create sketches, engineering drawings, and common engineering calculations
• Proficiency with Microsoft productivity tools
• Strong analytical thinking, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
• Ability to work onsite in Mossville, Illinois, generally from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Ability to satisfy applicable export-control requirements
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding of diesel-engine systems and operation
• Experience with MATLAB, CANape, DIAdem, or comparable data-analysis and visualization tools
• Familiarity with emissions and measurement equipment from Horiba, AVL, or similar manufacturers
• Experience with Allen-Bradley systems
• Previous computer-aided design experience
• Experience developing creative technical solutions
• Experience leading projects or coordinating extended technical teams
