Job Title: Quality Technician (UT Certified)
Department: Quality Assurance / Manufacturing
Reports To: Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor

Position Summary

The Quality Technician (UT Certified) is responsible for performing quality inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT), with an emphasis on Ultrasonic Testing (UT), to ensure products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and company quality requirements. This position supports manufacturing operations by identifying defects, documenting inspection results, and working closely with production personnel to maintain product quality and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspections in accordance with applicable procedures, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Conduct dimensional, visual, and mechanical inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, welding symbols, and quality requirements.
  • Document inspection results accurately and prepare inspection reports and quality records.
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming materials and products.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify calibration status of inspection and testing equipment.
  • Maintain inspection equipment and UT instruments in proper working condition.
  • Support internal and external quality audits.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and operations to resolve quality concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all company safety policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Current Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level I or Level II certification in accordance with employer written practice based on ASNT SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, or NAS-410 (as applicable).
  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing or quality inspection experience preferred.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including:
  • Calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Height gauges
  • Tape measures
  • Indicators
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of quality inspection techniques and documentation requirements.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and quality management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional NDT certifications (MT, PT, VT, RT) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, API, AWS, ASME, or customer-specific quality standards.
  • Experience in structural steel, pressure vessel, pipe fabrication, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Experience with welding inspections and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP and quality management systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and other required safety equipment.
  • May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces, depending on inspection requirements.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • Shift schedule may vary based on production requirements.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.

  • First-pass inspection acceptance rate.
  • Accuracy and completeness of inspection documentation.
  • Timely completion of inspections.
  • Reduction in customer and internal quality defects.
  • Compliance with safety and quality procedures.
  • Equipment calibration and certification compliance.

This position is essential to ensuring product integrity through accurate inspections, effective ultrasonic testing, and adherence to customer and industry quality standards while supporting safe and efficient manufacturing operations.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
