The Intermodal Operations Field Maintenance Manager is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of intermodal equipment and infrastructure assets across terminals. This role combines engineering expertise, performance analytics, and financial stewardship to ensure maximum reliability, safety, and cost efficiency. The analyst will establish and monitor lifecycle maintenance programs, benchmark equipment performance, manage budgets, and enforce quality controls through rigorous auditing and compliance processes.

Lifecycle Equipment Management
- Implement comprehensive lifecycle maintenance strategies for intermodal equipment, including RTG Cranes (Mi-Jack, Kone), Reach Stackers, Side Loaders, UTRs, chassis, and container handling systems.
- Establish predictive and preventive maintenance schedules using telematics, PLC data, and historical performance trends to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Perform periodic condition assessments and recommend overhaul or replacement based on total cost of ownership, reliability curves, and operational demand.
- Utilize CMMS to plan, track, and optimize preventive and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring accurate asset records, timely work order execution, and improved equipment reliability.
- Define and maintain equipment performance standards incorporating reliability metrics, duty cycle data, and lifecycle cost models.
- Benchmark equipment performance against industry standards, OEM specifications, and internal KPIs to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Conduct root cause analysis on failures and collaborate with OEMs and field teams to drive design improvements and validate warranty compliance.
- Assist in the development and monitor annual maintenance and capital budgets for intermodal equipment and infrastructure.
- Track expenditures against forecasts, identify cost variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure financial targets are met.
- Prepare cost-benefit analyses for equipment acquisition, refurbishment, and replacement decisions.
- Audit maintenance practices, contractor performance, and equipment installations to ensure adherence to CSX standards and regulatory requirements, i.e. (AAR, FRA, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA).
- Implement quality control processes for maintenance activities, ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance with safety protocols.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, and safety system configurations.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers to ensure site layouts, grading, electrical, and drainage systems accommodate current and future intermodal equipment requirements.
- Develop scopes of work, design reviews, and cost estimates integrating operational envelopes, telematics data, and power requirements.
- Work closely with Operations, Field Maintenance, and Procurement teams to align maintenance strategies and capital investments with operational goals.
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
- 50% Travel Required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent degree.
- 3 years in equipment maintenance, reliability engineering, or intermodal operations.
- High School Degree or GED
- 5 years experience in equipment maintenance, reliability engineering, or intermodal operations.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and cost optimization.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and safety compliance requirements.
- Continuous Process Improvement tools and techniques
- Effective communication skills - email and telephone
- Understanding of sections and meaning of a commercial contract or agreement
- Knowledge of Intermodal Equipment
- Ability to analyze data, prepare graphs and explain the analysis
- Work with peer teams to solve complex problems
