What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus full health benefits
At Alpha, academic instruction is handled by software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no assignments to take home, no papers to grade. This structure allows you to focus on what truly transforms outcomes: facilitating life skills workshops where high school students develop abilities in public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange, then providing individual coaching to maintain their motivation and support their learning targets. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one conversations with students, analyzing their Coachbot performance data to pinpoint exactly where obstacles are emerging and what's causing them.
Following each workshop, students complete a mastery-based evaluation. You should earn positive ratings from 90% of participants. Every student should be making consistent progress in their learning applications. These figures aren't stretch targets; they define the standard. Maintaining rigorous expectations demonstrates your confidence in their potential. Throughout this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that genuinely engage teenagers, utilizing advanced educational technology, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville location sits adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education intersects with the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's central commitment: students who are excited about school, learn at double the typical rate, and acquire capabilities that have genuine impact. If you've been searching for an educational environment aligned with your vision of how schools should operate, you've found it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour workshops on life skills for high school students, covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration techniques, and feedback processes, followed by measuring understanding through structured Test2Pass evaluations
- Conducting daily individual motivation sessions that leverage Coachbot data to engage with students personally, diagnose learning application obstacles, and help them move beyond points of resistance
- Creating personalized motivational approaches with each student, incorporating reward systems and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement in academic software
- Examining curriculum materials and lesson frameworks prior to each session, then adjusting your delivery approach based on real-time assessment of student engagement
- Delivering instruction in academic content areas. Mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects are covered by software.
- Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your complete attention goes to your student group.
- Enforcing rules through conventional authority methods. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no appeals to position power. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energized learning space.
Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about their education, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive technology, and show mastery of practical life skills.
