What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site in Houston, TX (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full day's worth of academics in roughly two hours using adaptive technology. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. Your role focuses on what technology cannot replicate: developing Pre-K through 8th grade students' essential life competencies including public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. You'll spend half your day facilitating hands-on workshops guided by structured frameworks and narrative techniques. The remaining time, you'll meet with students individually or in small groups, analyze their adaptive learning progress through Coachbot analytics, and challenge them to achieve 100% of their weekly objectives. Mastery is demonstrated through Test2Pass evaluations, not attendance or effort grades.
During your first year, you'll guide a dedicated student cohort and become proficient in Alpha's methodology: life skills workshops, motivational coaching, mastery-validated assessments. As you demonstrate the ability to hold every student accountable to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement opportunities emerge to Lead Guide, where you mentor other Guides while remaining directly engaged with students. Top performers in this role don't simply transform individual trajectories; they influence campus-wide operational culture.
If you've invested years coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and wished you could eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate exclusively on their personal development, this is that opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and feedback skills (experiential and project-oriented)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions where you assess each student's adaptive learning progress (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and challenge them to complete 100% of their weekly benchmarks
- Overseeing and evaluating Test2Pass assessments to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill, beyond simple participation
- Adjusting your coaching approach across diverse age groups, from Pre-K students requiring high-energy, kinesthetic engagement to 8th graders needing direct conversation and personal accountability
- Cultivating authentic connections with each student so they trust you sufficiently to receive coaching through resistance, distraction, and moments of self-doubt
- Delivering lectures or conventional academic instruction (students acquire core subjects through adaptive technology, not through your direct teaching)
- Creating lesson plans or curriculum materials independently (Alpha supplies life skills frameworks; your responsibility is to animate them through energy and narrative)
- Handling parent communications or administrative school functions (Campus Leads manage those areas; you remain concentrated on your students)
- Evaluating homework or coordinating standardized test preparation (these elements don't exist in this environment)
- Operating independently (you're integrated within a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort develops a genuine love for school, achieves mastery of critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience working with Pre-K–8 students (teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (the objective, your specific actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Available to work on-site at Alpha's Houston, TX campus (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp management, or after-school program coordination where you held direct responsibility for motivating children to achieve defined goals
- History of notable personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions demanding consistent excellence)
- Innate storytelling capacity: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without elevating your voice
- Experience motivating disengaged or reluctant students and converting them into active, engaged participants
