What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Coach, Sports Academy - $60,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Hybrid Texas
- W2
- $60K/yr
At Texas Sports Academy, we operate a virtual program where student-athletes progress through self-paced academic applications while simultaneously building life skills and athletic capability. You'll meet with your cohort through scheduled virtual 1:1 and small-group sessions each week. Your role centers on guiding their focus, maintaining accountability, and identifying disengagement early. The quality of your sessions reflects your ability to establish presence and trust — the academic content takes care of itself.
Your work consists of three core components: coaching sessions that maintain student momentum, proactive response when progress metrics reveal concerns, and facilitated virtual workshops addressing mindset and life skills. You'll work remotely from anywhere in Texas, with in-person gatherings each quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio.
If you've worked with students or athletes and found the most meaningful moments were when someone broke through their self-imposed ceiling, we encourage you to apply.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating virtual 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions that help student-athletes prioritize effectively, stay accountable, and remain actively engaged
- Tracking progress data from learning platforms to spot disengagement or academic gaps before they escalate
- Taking direct action when a student loses momentum — modifying your coaching method, restoring progress, and supporting recovery
- Facilitating structured virtual workshops focused on mindset, life skills, and personal growth, where active student participation defines success
- Establishing trusted relationships with each student-athlete so accountability feels collaborative rather than authoritative
- Teaching academic material or delivering instructional content — students navigate self-paced apps; you focus on engagement and completion
- Creating lesson plans, assigning grades, or administering course frameworks
- Reacting only when students report difficulties — you monitor data and act preemptively
- Conducting sessions where students attend but remain disengaged
Ensure virtual student-athletes stay engaged, advance academically, and develop the life skills required for long-term success beyond academics.
Basic Requirements
- You have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes — in a paid or volunteer capacity
- You have facilitated group sessions for students or athletes for a minimum of 6 months
- You have worked in a position requiring goal-setting and outcome tracking — and can demonstrate measurable results (such as completion rates, performance gains, or comparable metrics)
- You are proficient in conducting virtual sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have experience using spreadsheets, an LMS, or similar systems to monitor participant progress
- You have used an AI tool — such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, or equivalent — at least once and can describe the application
- You are located in Texas and available to participate in one in-person event per quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio
- You are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship
- Familiarity with learning management systems (such as Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or comparable platforms) or tools for tracking academic progress
- Ability to adjust your coaching style based on individual motivation profiles — recognizing when to challenge, when to ease off, and when to simply listen
Texas Sports Academy is Where Future Champions Excel in Academics and Athletics
Traditional schools force student-athletes to choose between excelling in academics or committing to their sport. Texas Sports Academy eliminates that tradeoff.
Their innovative K-8 model, based in Austin, TX, uses AI-driven learning to accelerate academics, allowing students to master core subjects in just two hours a day.
The rest of their day is dedicated to athletic training, skill-building, and personal development - so students excel in both their studies and their sport.
By integrating advanced educational technology with structured sports training, they provide a unique learning experience that builds discipline, leadership, and resilience.
It's academics and athletics in perfect sync.
