What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Performance Coach, Sports Academy - $60,000/year USD position at Crossover?
This role is for someone who wants to coach student-athletes, not teach them — no lesson plans, no grading, no content instruction. You'll focus entirely on the coaching that drives results: building accountability, earning trust, and helping students break through their own perceived limits.
At Texas Sports Academy, we operate a virtual program where student-athletes progress through self-paced academic applications while simultaneously building life skills and continuing their athletic development. Your cohort will meet with you weekly in virtual 1:1 and small-group formats. You'll help them prioritize, maintain accountability, and spot disengagement early. The quality of your sessions depends directly on your presence and your ability to build trust — not on what's displayed on screen.
The work breaks down into three core areas: coaching sessions that maintain student momentum, proactive intervention when performance data reveals a concern, and facilitation of structured virtual workshops addressing mindset and life skills. You'll work fully remotely from Texas, with in-person quarterly events held in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio.
If you've worked with students or athletes and the most rewarding part was seeing someone exceed a boundary they'd placed on themselves, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
Maintain engagement, academic progress, and life skills development among virtual student-athletes so they're prepared for success beyond academics.
Basic Requirements
Texas Sports Academy is Where Future Champions Excel in Academics and Athletics
Traditional schools force student-athletes to choose between excelling in academics or committing to their sport. Texas Sports Academy eliminates that tradeoff.
Their innovative K-8 model, based in Austin, TX, uses AI-driven learning to accelerate academics, allowing students to master core subjects in just two hours a day.
The rest of their day is dedicated to athletic training, skill-building, and personal development - so students excel in both their studies and their sport.
By integrating advanced educational technology with structured sports training, they provide a unique learning experience that builds discipline, leadership, and resilience.
It's academics and athletics in perfect sync.

What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating virtual 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions that help student-athletes set priorities, maintain accountability, and sustain high engagement
- Tracking progress data from learning platforms and detecting disengagement or performance gaps before they escalate
- Stepping in directly when a student begins to fall behind — modifying your coaching approach, restoring momentum, and guiding them back on track
- Facilitating structured virtual workshops focused on mindset, life skills, and personal development, where active student participation defines success
- Earning trust with each student-athlete so that accountability discussions feel natural and respected, not forced
- Teaching curriculum or delivering academic instruction — students advance through self-paced apps; you focus on engagement and execution
- Creating lesson plans, grading assignments, or managing course frameworks
- Waiting for students to bring issues to your attention — you analyze the data and act first
- Facilitating passive sessions where attendance happens without meaningful engagement
Maintain engagement, academic progress, and life skills development among virtual student-athletes so they're prepared for success beyond academics.
Basic Requirements
- You have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes — paid or volunteer
- You have facilitated group sessions for students or athletes for a minimum of 6 months
- You have worked in a role where goal-setting and outcome tracking were central — and you can present measurable results (such as completion rates, performance gains, or equivalent metrics)
- You are proficient in conducting virtual sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have experience using a spreadsheet, LMS, or comparable tool to monitor participant progress
- You have used an AI tool — such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, or similar — at least once and can describe the use case
- You are located in Texas and able to participate in one in-person event each quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio
- You are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship
- Familiarity with learning management systems (such as Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or similar) or tools designed for tracking academic progress
- Ability to adjust your coaching style to suit different motivational profiles — recognizing when to challenge, when to ease up, and when to simply listen
