What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site in Houston, TX — campuses in Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
Alpha does not operate as a conventional school. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: developing life skills in Pre-K through 8th grade students—public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. Half of your time is spent facilitating hands-on workshops guided by structured frameworks and narrative techniques. The remaining half involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their adaptive learning progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving them toward 100% completion of weekly objectives. Mastery is validated through Test2Pass assessments, not participation metrics.
During your first year, you will oversee a student cohort and internalize Alpha's methodology: life skill workshops, motivational coaching, mastery-based evaluation. Once you demonstrate the ability to guide every student to 100% goal completion while sustaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—coaching fellow Guides while maintaining direct student engagement. The most effective individuals in this role do more than transform individual trajectories; they influence campus-wide culture.
If you have years of experience coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and have longed to eliminate traditional instruction in favor of genuine developmental work, this is the opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill sessions for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and feedback practices (activity-driven and project-oriented)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations where you examine each student's adaptive learning data (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and drive them to complete 100% of weekly benchmarks
- Overseeing and assessing Test2Pass evaluations to verify genuine mastery of each life skill, beyond simple participation
- Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from Pre-K learners requiring dynamic engagement and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and responsibility
- Cultivating authentic connections with every student so they develop sufficient trust to receive coaching during moments of resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
- Providing lectures or conventional academic teaching (core subject mastery happens through adaptive applications, not through your instruction)
- Creating lesson plans or curriculum materials independently (Alpha supplies structured life skills frameworks; your responsibility is delivering them with presence and narrative skill)
- Handling parent communication or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage those functions; you remain concentrated on student development)
- Evaluating homework assignments or preparing students for standardized testing (these elements are absent from Alpha's model)
- Operating independently (you function within a campus team alongside Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide feedback and mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student within your cohort develops genuine enthusiasm for school, achieves mastery of critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning platforms.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience working with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management roles)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your specific actions, and the result achieved)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Availability to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school programming where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward measurable goals
- History of significant personal accomplishment (academic distinction, competitive sports achievement, or leadership positions demanding sustained high performance)
- Innate narrative skill: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without elevating your voice
- Proven ability to re-engage unmotivated or reluctant students and convert them into active contributors
